Mailchimp

The OG of email marketing. 11M+ users, acquired by Intuit for $12B. The free tier keeps shrinking, the competition keeps growing. Still the most recognized name in email.

Managed email lists from 500 to 50K subscribers

Honest take: I started with Mailchimp when the free tier was generous — 2,000 contacts, automations, landing pages. Today? The free plan caps at 500 contacts and 1,000 sends/month. Meanwhile, Brevo offers 300 emails/day free with unlimited contacts. So why a 7.8? Because the drag-and-drop editor is genuinely the best I have used. Templates are professional. Analytics are detailed. The brand is trusted. But if I were starting fresh today on a budget, I would look at Brevo or Loops first.

The Verdict

Mailchimp is still the most recognized name in email with the best builder. But aggressive pricing and stronger alternatives mean it is no longer the default. Best for SMBs wanting all-in-one marketing. Budget startups should try Brevo or Loops.
